Who I am

Published: Tuesday, November 09, 2010

I am the passionate founder of Company2Keep Inc., an on-line social platform dedicated to promoting social responsibility and showcasing businesses which have adopted socially responsible commitments as their core value proposition.

I have spent the past 25 years working in the field of international development and that’s how I gained first-hand experience with the power of conversation and its ability to break down barriers to some of the world’s toughest issues.  I have seen what happens when individuals take responsibility for something, for anything they believe they can change, simply by saying, “I can do that” and then with an unwavering commitment they proceed to do so.   Being committed to a purpose, they radiate an influence that touches everyone they come in contact with.

I am a principled advocate of human rights.   I have seen the result of individuals who have integrated powerful concepts – rights-based concepts - into their practices and then proceeded to change worlds one conversation at a time.

I have been a supporter and advocate of corporate social responsibility for the past 15 years and believe the time has come to rev up the conversation and to make it infectious.

I am as eclectic as the next person.   I have travelled to 344 places in 47 countries.  I love eating durian and rhubarb (not together), the smell of patchouli, fresh mown hay, the solitude of a small barn of farm animals after chores at the end of the day, southern France, Thailand, Indonesia and Japan, sticky rice with mango and coconut milk and Indian authors.  I have studied the Japanese Tea Ceremony and curated my own collection of Asian textiles at a national museum. I have raised Nubian goats, chopped firewood and grown my own food. I’ve swung a hammer and refurbished a barn and mended more than a few fences along the way.  I love my fitness programme and being mindful of how I eat.  I know how to use a semi-colon.
